What a Kratom Extract Shot Actually Is
Start with the manufacturing, because it explains everything downstream. Kratom leaf is dried and milled into powder. For an extract, that powder goes through a solvent process that pulls the alkaloids out of the plant material, and the resulting concentrate is measured and suspended in a flavored liquid base. What ends up in the bottle is not ground leaf. It is an isolated fraction of what was in the leaf, redissolved.
Two things follow from that. First, an extract shot is concentrated by volume relative to loose powder, which is why bottles are small. Second, and more importantly, the amount in the bottle is a manufacturing decision rather than a property of the plant, so it varies enormously between brands and even between products from the same brand. The Three Numbers to Check Before You Buy
Ignore the front of the bottle. These three fields, taken together, are the only honest way to compare two shots.
1. Volume in millilitres
Shots on the market run roughly from 10ml to 2oz (about 59ml). A 10ml bottle and a 2oz bottle are not the same product category, and comparing their prices directly tells you nothing.
2. Mitragynine content in milligrams
This is the number that matters and the one most often buried. Some manufacturers put it in the product title, which we appreciate. Others put it only on the back label or in the lab report. If a shot does not disclose milligrams anywhere, that absence is your answer.
3. Servings per bottle
This is the one that catches people out. A bottle is not automatically one serving. Many shots are labelled as two or more servings, which means the price you are comparing is not the price of a single use. Check the label, then divide.
How to Calculate Real Cost
Once you have those three numbers, the maths is straightforward. Divide the bottle price by the number of servings on the label. That gives you cost per serving, which is the only figure worth putting side by side across brands.
Do it a second way as well: divide the price by the milligrams of mitragynine disclosed. That gives you cost per milligram, and it is often the more revealing of the two, because it exposes the shots that are cheap simply because there is less in them.
