Drinking Kratom with Coffee: A New Trend?

CBD coffee is a new fad that has taken the world by storm. Some people, on the other hand, are starting to mix CBD coffee with kratom! At first glance, this may appear to be an odd mix, but let’s take a closer look at why this can be useful to some people. Nuwave Botanicals will answer questions such as: what is kratom? How does it work? Why mix it with coffee? And lastly, how can these two substances help kickstart your morning? Let’s find out!

How Does Kratom Work?

Kratom comes from Southeast Asia and is an evergreen tree. It has been used in traditional medicine for hundreds of years. Kratom leaves contain mitragynine, an alkaloid that interacts with our opioid receptors to reduce pain and boost mood.  Mitragynine is also responsible for the psychoactive effects caused by ingesting kratom in its natural leaf form or as a powder supplement.

Why Kratom and Coffee?

Because both kratom and coffee are members of the Rubiaceae plant family, they complement one another. Rubiaceae is the fourth most populous angiosperm family, with around 13,500 species. The kratom tree, Mitragyna speciosa, and coffee, the plant genus from which coffee beans are extracted, are examples. Even though both are members of the same botanical family and have a long history of recreational usage, these plants differ significantly.

One of the most significant distinctions is that the leaves of the kratom plant are grown for use. Kratom leaves can be consumed fresh or dried and ground into a powder, then be made into tea. Coffee is made from the plant’s beans, which are usually roasted after harvest to support various flavor characteristics in the drink.

Both plants include alkaloids, which are naturally occurring components that promote excitement in users, among other things. While caffeine is the most well-known alkaloid in coffee, kratom contains a range of alkaloids, the most common of which are mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine. These two alkaloids are thought to be responsible for kratom’s broad spectrum of effects, while research into the precise nature of kratom’s dynamic characteristics is currently underway.

Mitragyna speciosa leaves have recently been famous for being combined with ground coffee beans to create an energy drink that may be used at work or in social settings when one needs to stay alert while minimizing fatigue.

What Happens When You Mix Coffee and Kratom?

While you can obtain energy from either kratom or coffee on their own, combining the two may provide some distinct benefits. Kratom has a characteristic bitter flavor that some people dislike; however, combining kratom with coffee can help conceal this flavor, resulting in a possibly more delicious drinking experience.

Coffee can steadily release alkaloids to provide a consistent source of energy, but kratom can have various effects, including providing an energy spike. However, kratom has been found to minimize unpleasant feelings and assist a calm mentality due to its specific alkaloids. In contrast, large dosages of caffeine tend to have a high, stimulating impact.

People who take both should start with tiny doses and gradually raise the dosage to see how their bodies react.

Side Effects of Mixing Kratom with Coffee

Although kratom use has been safe for many users, research into side effects and possible risks is ongoing. If you are consuming taking kratom, always consult with their healthcare provider to avoid any of these adverse side effects, especially those with pre-existing health conditions.

Even though kratom is a natural food product, it’s crucial to remember that many botanicals have side effects. The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine surveyed 2,798 kratom users to learn more about their habits and experiences. Around a third of those who used the Kratom products experienced side effects, such as:

  • Lethargy
  • stomach aches
  • Constipation

These side effects were described as minor and went away in a day or less. More severe side effects were recorded by 1.9 percent of respondents, including:

  • Anxiety\Depression
  • Insomnia
  • Irritability

How to Mix Kratom and Coffee

There are a few things to bear in mind when attempting to combine coffee and kratom:

First, kratom has an earthy, herbal flavor akin to green tea, which should be considered when mixing it with other beverages. Make sure the coffee and kratom are both fresh and of good quality.

Second, brew water at a temperature of 195 to 205 degrees Fahrenheit to extract the maximum alkaloids from kratom. Boiling temperatures can scorch coffee and denature alkaloids in both.

To make the perfect drink, combine coffee with kratom in one of the following ways:

  • In a brewed cup of coffee, add kratom powder
  • Combine kratom tea with coffee in a cup.
  • Make coffee with kratom powder and coffee grounds regularly.
  • After consuming kratom, sip a cup of coffee.

Strains That Are Most Effective With Coffee?

The “fast” and “moderate” kratom strains are the most compatible with coffee. Green and white veins, such as the ones shown below, are common among these strains. NuWave offers a variety of white vein products.  For its energetic benefits, white vein kratom is frequently compared to coffee; however, each strain has its distinct characteristics:

  • White Borneo: This strain can be used to help with alertness and focus during the day. It’s often compared to coffee and can help boost caffeine levels.
  • White Vein Kali: Of all the Kali strains, this one is the mildest. It has a reputation for revitalizing and may relieving any bodily issues or discomfort.
  • White Vein Thai: This strain is the most stimulating of all the white veins, with fewer pain-relieving properties than the others.
  • White Vein Indo: This strain is primarily recognized for relieving physical discomfort, but it can also give you a slight boost.

Green vein kratom is a strain of kratom that provides vitality. Nuwave also offers  Green powders and extracts. Green vein kratom comes in three different strains, including:

  • Green Indo: This strain has both discomfort relieving and energy-boosting properties. Even though there aren’t many alkaloids in this strain, its effects might last a long time.
  • Green Malay: This strain is well-known for its uplifting and stimulating properties. NuWave offers this in powdered form.
  • Green Vein Kali: This strain can both excite and relieve physical discomfort. It has the potential to be more potent than Green Indo.

You can add red vein kratom to your coffee, but keep in mind that red kratom is known for promoting a relaxed mindset, which may help to counteract coffee’s potentially overstimulating or jitters-inducing effects.
